Welcome to the Chambers County Sheriff's Office
Sheriff Nelson was elected in 2022 and assumed the role of Sheriff January 17, 2023. Prior to that, he retired from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA). During his time with ALEA, he served in the Highway Patrol, State Bureau of Investigation, Homicide/Major Crimes Unit, DEA Task Force and the Protective Services Division. Sheriff Nelson's vision for the Chambers County Sheriff's Office is to make it the best law enforcement agency possible. This is realized by his employees daily. He demands strict professionalism and is involved in the operations of all divisions of his office.
Mike has been with the Sheriff's Office for 25 years. During his time, he has served as a patrol deputy, K9 handler, investigator, drug task force commander, SWAT commander, patrol commander and assistant jail administrator. It is the chief deputy's job to supervise the operation of the Sheriff's Office, maintain the operating budget, manage purchasing, personnel and carry out the sheriff's wishes. Mike is also a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
Tommy serves as commander of the Courts Division and code enforcement. Tommy has been with the Sheriff's Office for 18 years. He has served as a patrol deputy, patrol supervisor, and investigator.
Derick has been with us 13 years. He has served as a patrol deputy, investigator and patrol supervisor. It is the patrol commander's duty to supervise the operation of the patrol division, maintain the evidence room, schedule training and handle citizen complaints. Derick also serves as a Firearms Instructor and commander of the Chambers County Multi-Jurisdictional SWAT Team.
Jeff has been with the Sheriff's Office for over 25 years. He has served as a patrol deputy, K9 handler, patrol supervisor, and investigator.
Cassie has been with the Sheriff's Office for 10 years. She developed a love for working in the corrections environment. She moved through the ranks quickly at the detention facility and was promoted to the position of Warden in early 2024. She obtained the National Certified Corrections Executive (NCCE) from the National Institute for Jail Operations.
Justin has over 10 years experience in corrections. He has served as a detention deputy, supervisor and training coordinator prior to being promoted to Jail Administrator. He is currently working on his NCCE certification.
